"Perry's work is a brilliantly realized comment on the inseparableness of art and life, and the sense of ambiguity makes it all the more effective." - Byron Coleman, Gallery&Studio Magazine, 2009 Working in the mediums of painting, drawing, and printmaking, I make work that addresses a struggle between perception and experience, awkwardness and beauty, approximation and precision; while playing with our abilities to decipher graphic form and space. I am inspired by the liberated use of color and abstract visual language honed by Modern and Post-Modern artists, such as Matisse, Bonnard, and later, Diebenkorn. Additionally, I am influenced by the graphic quality and economic approach to image making found in Japanese and Chinese Landscape Painting. As a teacher, and collaborative printmaker, I work with students and artists of all levels to develop their creative ideas and produce original works of contemporary art. I have an MFA in painting and am a Tamarind Master Printer (learn more: Tamarind Institute), with expertise in lithography, relief, and intaglio printmaking. I specialize in teaching all forms of the graphic arts including painting, printmaking, drawing, and design, as well as foundation courses and art history seminars. I also collaborate with professional artists to produce original works in printmaking.
